where to begin it all, or in this case not at all

This academic year has come and past in only what i can describe as an emotional hurricane, I would say whirlwind but that’s too mild a description.  The year started with a bang, the first week was eventful and exhausting, from the first day we arrived in the studio we were worked emotionally, mentally and physically to breaking point, why? Because we were first years and I guess the whole point of first year architecture is to make or break you.  Many a time I was millimetres away from breaking point, to the point that I couldn’t handle it anymore, to the point that I just wanted to be done with it all, to this day I still question my own rationale over sticking with it – I mean yes if I make it all the way I’ll have social status and far more important than that my parents approval and maybe an ounce of my own happiness wouldn’t be too much to ask.  Work wise, this year has been exhausting, the long hours wouldn’t have mattered as much if the results weren’t so frustrating, because I did everything I knew I had to but I didn’t receive proper feedback until the very last instance, all the bullshit that I had to put up with made the end product far more satisfying. As much as I hate to admit it, I think my demented tutor was a dick to me almost all year because he knew I wouldn’t deal well with easy, that I need a challenge to really come alive but honestly I think he may gone about it in the wrong way – I understand why he did it, I just don’t agree with the method.  All I really wanted out of this year was to be appreciated for all the work and effort I put in but I guess in my field of study appreciation is something hard to come across. So what am I  to do this summer? I think the best thing I can do is sort through my head and try and decide what it really is that  I want to do which is easier said than done because a cloud of emotion lingers above all my thoughts about the past academic year.

I'll post the pages of my journal at some point, because apparently is very 'critical' of everything - you can judge for yourself.

not much time left

I was looking over my time table and I've realized there really isn't much time left on the course, we're already two weeks into the project yet we've had little guidance into what we're supposed to be doing, our brief has been just that, very brief - this could be they're way of introducing us into the second year style of working, receiving a vague short brief and making the project into what you want --> what you do with it it entirely up to you, in a way I guess its good because you have complete control over it. so far for this project I've gone out and taken photos of places that i like for any reason, I've gone out during the day, the afternoon and at night each time visiting the same strip of land and what I've noticed is each time I've photographed very similar things so through primary research I've found my self a theme to work from. The theme is freedom, at what ever stage in your life that you may be, you're always trying to be free to do what you want, that doesn't mean it I think everyone is an anarchist, I don't mean that at all. what I mean is we strive for a greater degree of freedom within everything we do, we may not realize it at the time, its only when you look back retrospectively that you notice. Here are some photos that inspired me to come up with this theme

snow

im on the way to the open air museum and there is considerably more snow here on the way than in brighton where we're a lot closer to the sea, the snow is so pretty and pure, its sparkling white and fluffy, to me it represents winter in its truest form.

day tripping

today we on an optional trip to flimwell open air museum and a walk through the local woods, these trips are said to be optional but on each and every trip something new is taught which i think is not fair to the people who dont attend because they miss out on teaching. the missed lesson is the worse part of an absense though, its the mocking and the bullying that follows after that makes everything so much worse ofcourse this is done by the so called teacher. the weather today is freezing cold and actually snowing so probably not the best weather for an open air museum, im just hoping it'll be worth it. i'll post later with some photos and possibly some more writting.

journal pages so far

here are the journal pages that i've made so far...

intro- trying to keep it simple

I started my part 1 architecture degree in September this year, so technically I'm still a fresher and new to the whole world of architecture, as part of my course I have to record processes that I encounter including what we do on the course and everything else so I've decided to do what I do best - write about it, every aspect of it and to do so in an organised manner I'm going to keep this blog it so I can keep track of the time scale and I can also blog using my kindle, so posts on the go. Initially I thought of blogging my journal but then i thought i could just write it in a paper journal and sort of sketch book 'the journal' but apparently you can't do that for the entire journal, you can sketchbook parts of it and even then it has to be very neat which in my opinion defeats the point of the sketchbook because it will strip away any soul that the spontaneity would bring on - so for that reason my journal is going to be designed on a computer then printed out.  I realise that I should of started blogging my journal back in september so i'll make posts on the things that have already happened in an attempt to keep this blog up to date. Along with writing i'm also going to post photos and scans of the work to make this blog as close to a journal page as possible.
